  5. Sound details.

  7. This sound was captured at a pool-saloon in Oslo. The sound of the
  8. pool-balls is very distinct, but when they roll - they're rather quiet!
  9. This short sequence suffers from a bit of noise. This noise was not
  10. present in the original 16 bit recording, it appeared after converting
  11. the samlple to 8 bit and is typically due to this low resolution.

  14. Recording and processing details.

  16. This sound was captured with a Sony ECM-979 MS stereo condenser
  17. microphone and recorded directly onto a Sony TCD-D3 portable DAT
  18. recorder.  It was later transferred digitally to an Akai S-1100
  19. equipped with a digital I/O board, and finally to the Amiga via MIDI
  20. sample dump in Samplitude Professional.  Since the recording was done
  21. on a DAT, the sampling rate was quiet high; 48kHz.  I decided to lower
  22. this rate to half the speed before I converted the sound to 8bits.  Now
  23. the sound has a frequency of 24.131 Hz.  This was done in order to save
  24. space but still keep up with the high sound quality from the original
  25. 16 bit file.  This also ensures that the soundfile is compatible with
  26. Amiga 8bit sound software.  (Many 8bit programs have problems with
  27. *VERY* high playback rates.) Please beware that Samplitude Professional
  28. exports IFF sound with a default volume setting of 0 (zero).  I haven't
  29. changed this.
